How do I order a custom spring without a drawing?
Send the physical sample with three measurements — wire diameter, outside diameter, free length — plus the working load at two installed heights, and the material/environment requirement. A factory can reverse-engineer a rate curve from that and confirm it with a first-article sample before serial production.
Why does a stainless spring cost more than a music-wire spring of the same size?
Stainless wire (302/304) has lower tensile efficiency, so achieving the same load needs a larger wire or heat-treated grades like 17-7 PH; coiling also wears tooling faster and holding rate tolerance needs more sorting. If corrosion, not strength, is the requirement, plated carbon spring is the cheaper option.
